Colony Removal

Where bees have taken up residence in your property and are an established thriving colony

The L.B.A can provide a team of volunteers to remove established colonies from your property / outhouses. As we are all hobbyist beekeepers and offer this free service, purely on a volunteer basis, we would ask that the following guidelines be taken into consideration

  1. We will provide the equipment and experience necessary for the removal and safe housing of any established colonies. Please note – this is NOT SOMETHING YOU SHOULD CONSIDER DOING YOURSELF.
  2. We will endeavour to arrange a mutually convenient time to attend your premises and, if deemed necessary, carry out a site visit to discuss and consider all options prior to removing.
  3. We cannot be responsible for any building alterations / scaffolding erection costs before or following a colony removal.
  4. Colony removal will only be carried out if the area concerned is structurally safe to do so and poses no risk to our volunteers.
  5. Where possible, please provide a photo for identification purposes when initially contacting us at secretary@lochaberbeekeepers.org
  6. We do not remove wasps, bumblebees, or any other type of bee, which are best left until the end of summer when they will disperse naturally.
  7. The L.B.A will not charge a fee to carry out this work, but a donation to the association would be gratefully received for us to continue.

Feral / free roaming colonies

Occasionally honey bees can take up residence in unexpected places and thrive quite happily. Unless there is an urgent need to remove them, we would best advise that they be left alone as a Feral/Free Living colony and continue their lives naturally.

Thank-you.
