LBA Equipment Loan Programme

The LBA equipment loan programme is up and running with a number of members taking advantage of this facility.

We currently have some hives available for members to loan. Please contact Marian Austin or Andy Rodgers (Equipment Managers) for details at

The loan of equipment is governed by the Terms & Conditions (T&C's) of the LBA Equipment Loan Programme which any member wishing to borrow equipment must be prepared to agree to.

A copy of the LBA Equipment Loan T&C's are given after the LBA Constitution.

Books on Beekeeping

The Fort William Library currently has a few books on the subject of beekeeping. By far the best of these is the Collins Beekeeper's Bible which has a wealth of information for the beginner and the more experienced alike. The book has over 400 pages and the main topics covered are:

Bees & Beekeeping History

Understanding the Honeybee

Practical Beekeeping

Honey & Other Products

Recipes and Home Crafts

Of particular value is the blank copy of a Queen & Colony Record that is included at the end of the book.

As with all books of this nature the only pitfall to avoid is that of the dates of seasons, or of months in which to do certain tasks, for as we all know they are usually offset by at least one month here in the Highlands.

As part of the Lochaber Beekeepers Association membership of the Scottish Beekeepers Association we can access books from the Moir Library - do contact the Secretary for details.
